H IWC ΓΙΟΡΤΑΖΕΙ ΤΗΝ ΑΠΟΓΕΙΩΣΗ ΤΟΥ SILVER SPITFIRE

Η IWC Schaffhausen και η Boultbee Flight Academy σε συνεργασία με την Aviation Adventures Ltd. γιόρτασαν την επίσημη έναρξη της αποστολής “Silver Spitfire – The Longest Flight” στο Goodwood. Κάτω από τα δυνατά χειροκροτήματα των 400 καλεσμένων, το προσεκτικά ανακατασκευασμένο και καλογυαλισμένο αεροσκάφος Spitfire ξεκίνησε την πτήση του για το γύρo του κόσμου. Η IWC υποστηρίζει την αποστολή ως ο βασικός της συνεργάτης και επίσημος χρονομέτρης. 

Τα τελευταία 2 χρόνια, πάνω από 12 ειδικοί εργάστηκαν για την ανακατασκευή του αεροσκάφους Spitfire MK IX, το οποίο κατασκευάστηκε στο Castle Bromwich το 1943. Μετά από αρκετές επιτυχημένες δοκιμαστικές πτήσεις τον Ιούλιο, το “Silver Spitfire” τελικά απογειώθηκε στις 5 Αυγούστου από το αεροδρόμιο του Goodwood, ξεκινώντας τον πολυαναμενόμενο γύρo του κόσμου. Πιλότος του θρυλικού αεροσκάφους, στο πρώτο του ταξίδι, είναι o Matt Jones, συνιδρυτής της Boultbee Flight Academy.

ΑΠΟΚΛΕΙΣΤΙΚΟ ΔΕΙΠΝΟ ΚΑΙ ΑΕΡΟΠΟΡΙΚΗ ΕΠΙΔΕΙΞΗ

Την Κυριακή το βράδυ, πριν από την πτήση, η IWC διοργάνωσε ένα prive δείπνο με τους δύο πιλότους και το πλήρωμα τους στο Goodwood House. Περίπου 400 καλεσμένοι συγκεντρώθηκαν στο Goodwood Estate για ένα μεγάλο αποχαιρετιστήριο πάρτι. Η εκδήλωση περιλάμβανε ζωντανή μουσική, αεροπορική επίδειξη και πολλά παράλληλα events. Το παρόν έδωσαν η βρετανίδα ηθοποιός Rosamund Pike και ο σταρ της Formula 1 David Coulthard – πρεσβευτές της IWC και οι δύο- οι Βρετανοί ηθοποιοί Taron Egerton και Finn Cole, καθώς και ο τηλεοπτικός και ραδιοφωνικός παρουσιαστής Dermot O’Leary. Στην απογείωση του, το “Silver Spitfire” συνοδεύονταν από δύο διθέσια Spitfire και την Βασιλική Αεροπορία. 

Κατά τη διάρκεια της πτήσης του γύρo από τον κόσμο, οι δύο Βρετανοί πιλότοι θα καλύψουν περισσότερα από 43.000 χιλιόμετρα και θα επισκεφτούν 30 χώρες. Η διαδρομή θα τους φέρει αρχικά στην Ισλανδία και από εκεί στον Καναδά και τις ΗΠΑ. Θα χρειαστούν περίπου 100 πτήσεις για την ολοκλήρωση της αποστολής. Κατά τη διάρκεια του ταξιδιού που θα περάσει μέσα από αρκετές διαφορετικές ζώνες ώρας, ο Boultbee Brooks και ο Jones θα φορούν το Pilot’s Watch Timezoner Spitfire Edition “The Longest Flight” ( Ref. I W395501). Το επίσημο ρολόι της πτήσης, δίνει τη δυνατότητα ρύθμισης μιας διαφορετικής ζώνης ώρας απλά με την περιστροφή της στεφάνης στην επιθυμητή θέση. 

IWC CELEBRATES THE SILVER SPITFIRE’S TAKE-OFF

IWC Schaffhausen and the Boultbee Flight Academy, in collaboration with Aviation Adventures Ltd, have celebrated the official start of the “Silver Spitfire - The Longest Flight” expedition in Goodwood. To the roaring applause of more than 400 guests, the carefully restored and polished Spitfire aircraft embarked on its unprecedented flight around the world. IWC supports the mission as its main partner and official timekeeper.

Over the last two years, more than a dozen specialists have worked to restore an original Spitfire MK IX aircraft, which was originally built in Castle Bromwich back in 1943. Following several successful test flights in July, the “Silver Spitfire” finally took off from Goodwood Aerodrome today, beginning its much-anticipated circumnavigation of the globe. Piloting the iconic British aircraft, on the first leg of its journey, is Matt Jones, co-founder of the Boultbee Flight Academy.

EXCLUSIVE DINNER AND AIR SHOW

On Sunday evening, ahead of the flight, IWC hosted a private dinner with the two pilots and their crew at Goodwood House. Today, about 400 guests gathered on the Goodwood Estate for a big farewell party. The funfair atmosphere included live music, an air show and other attractions. Amongst the guests were British actress Rosamund Pike and former Formula One™ star David Coulthard, both IWC brand ambassadors, British actors Taron Egerton and Finn Cole, as well as TV and radio presenter Dermot O’Leary.

On the flight around the world, the two British pilots will cover more than 43,000 kilometres and visit 30 countries. The route will initially take them to Iceland, and from there to Canada and the USA. A total of approximately 100 flight segments will be needed to complete the mission from start to finish. During their journey through the different time zones, Boultbee Brooks and Jones will wear the Pilot’s Watch Timezoner Spitfire Edition “The Longest Flight” (Ref. IW395501). As the official watch of the expedition, this timepiece makes it possible to set the time to a different time zone by simply turning the bezel to the desired location.
